OUR MOLISE NEW WINES

Aglianico and Pinot Grigio Terre degli Osci IGT

Let’s discover more about this denomination
Today we would like to tell you more about our Molise wine estate and the two new wines we are soon presenting. In 2016, driven by the desire to diversify our wine production rooted in Veneto and to face a new challenge, we purchased about ten hectares in Molise, a small region of central-southern Italy with great potential for the production of quality wines. We have elected Petacciato, a small town in an enchanting position between sky and sea, as the site of our Molise productions.

Molise is Italy's second-smallest region (after Valle d'Aosta) in both geographical and population terms, and ranks among Italy's least productive wine regions, economically poor, and with a workforce decimated by emigration.

We have chosen Terre degli Osci IGT for our two new wines, Aglianico and Pinot Grigio from our line Il Matese. Terre degli Osci is a key IGT title used in Molise: it covers the Campobasso province, the larger of Molise's two provinces.

Some Molise winemakers have attempted to diversify and modernize their offering in recent decades, shunning the region's traditional grapes (e.g. Tintilia) in favor of internationally popular grape varieties such as Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Grigio.

When the IGT category was created in the mid-1990s, with the purpose of freeing Italian wine producers from the constraints of tradition, Molise was given just two titles; one for Campobasso (Terre degli Osci IGT), and one for Isernia (Rotae IGT).
